Back in Action is one of the newest action-comedy movies on Netflix, and I had the chance to watch it a few days ago. First off, I’m pleasantly surprised as I did not expect that a Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx movie would ever work. I love spy movies, regardless of whether it’s action-thriller, action-mystery, action-comedy, or something else. I grew up watching the Mission: Impossible franchise, the Jason Bourne franchise, Kingsman, and more, so I have high standards when it comes to films in this genre.

Let’s talk about this movie in detail below. I’ll try not to give away as many details as I can to avoid spoilers since it’s still a new movie. Right now, it’s only available on Netflix, but hopefully, it will soon be available on other streaming services. Let’s start!
Cast
There’s not much to say about Back in Action’s cast lineup. It was great — everything and everyone worked together beautifully on the screen. As I said earlier, I did not expect Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx to work, but surprisingly, they did. Here’s a quick look at the major cast of the film:
- Jamie Foxx as Matt
- Cameron Diaz as Emily
- McKenna Roberts as Alice
- Ryan Jackson as Leo
- Kyle Chandler as Chuck
- Glenn Close as Ginny
- Jamie Demetriou as Nigel
- Andrew Scott as Baron

Plot
If you’ve ever watched a spy movie before on Flex TV, for example, you might find it pleasant and light as compared to other full-blown spy movies — if that’s what you prefer or looking for. The story is about Matt and Emily, two CIA spies who work on cases together… and sleeping together.
One day, Emily got pregnant before an important operation that required them to retrieve The Key which holds a lot of power. The said Key can control some of the most powerful infrastructure in the world, which, as they said in the movie, can create another Chernobyl if it falls into the wrong hands.
After successfully retrieving the Key, they ride a plane to transport it safely. However, they were attacked, and the plane crashed — but both of them survived, of course. That’s where they decided to leave their career behind — to keep their unborn baby safe. After all, they have the best cover — a plane crashed in the middle of nowhere and no one survived.

15 years later, they are now living as civilians with two beautiful kids. Unfortunately, one of their co-workers before appeared at their doorstep, Chuck. Chuck was saying something about what happened before when he suddenly got shot. The next thing Emily and Matt knew, bullets were flying everywhere.
They rushed to their kids’ school to pick them up and fly to Heathrow to hopefully resolve this problem. Their kids don’t know their past, and they need to try harder to hide their true identities. But, they know that they need to tell them eventually, especially in the situation they’re in right now.
My Thoughts
As I’ve said before, I’ve watched a lot of spy movies before — on Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, DIRECTV, DISH TV, and others. There’s nothing special about the plot because it follows the typical plot of a spy who wants to give their kid a normal life. However, how the story was laid out and the cast’s acting gave life to the movie itself.
Back in Action was very pleasant to watch, and you’ll even pick up some life lessons here and there. With the possibility of Back in Action 2 (based on the last scene), I would totally recommend everyone to watch this movie. It’s a solid 8/10 for me, and I think you’ll enjoy it too.
